‘Classically Inspired’

Estelle first completed Pilates method education through Positive Action Pilates, completing Level 1 & 2 Mat & Reformer Pilates for fitness, followed by a 100 hour Classical Pilates for Fitness Certification.

In 2026, Estelle is continuing education with Repertoire Pilates in Melbourne & New York Based Kane School completing comprehensive education in muscle anatomy, mat, and all Pilates apparatuses, with regard to the classical method

This education leaves Estelle with a modern and applicable knowledge of Joseph Pilates original method of Contrology, honouring the classical movement patterns, but creating a welcoming. adaptable, and safe environment for all.

a little bit about Joseph Pilates & Contrology

Joseph Pilates , as a child, endured many injuries and health issues which began his learning and drive to help all people (himself included) experience the best health possible.

Joseph (and his wife ,Clara) Pilates created the method of Contrology (which when practiced now is known as Classical Pilates), initially, to support the overall health, posture, movement patterns and breathing habits of the community due to the changes caused by the industrial revolution, which pivoted to supporting and rehabbing survivors of WW1; and upon the opening of his first Pilates studio in New York soon began expanding his client base to dancers and athletes, supporting them to progress in their career

Contrology was a system of 34 exercises on the mat designed to improve strength, flexibility, breath control, and mind body connection; the use of apparatuses, additional mat exercises, or small props were intended to improve and refine your mat exercises through adding support or resistance

As Contrology began to grow in popularity, it became what we know today as Pilates; often merged with other mind/body systems and strength building protocols.

A few of my favourite quotes from Pilates’ 1945 Book,

‘Return to Life Through Contrology’

“Always keep your mind wholly concentrated on the purpose of the exercise as you perform them.”

“When all your muscles are properly developed you will naturally perform your work with minimum effort and maximum enjoyment”

“Breathing is the first act of life, and the last. Our very life depends on it”
